Description
Job Opportunity: RN - Intensive Care Unit
Location: Chapel Hill, North Carolina
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Contract Length: 9 weeks
Job Summary
Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards in a hospital setting. Responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process.
Essential Duties
- Participate in ongoing education to meet learning needs.
- Use patient education materials and assess patient/family readiness and developmental level.
- Identify expected patient outcomes and participate in care plan evaluation and revision.
- Communicate effectively with interdisciplinary team members to promote continuity of care.
- Demonstrate competence in caring for patients with complex problems, including physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects.
- Perform bedside point of care testing as required.
- Organize and prioritize care according to patient/family needs.
- Consult appropriate resources for complex care issues and discharge planning.
- Develop professional growth goals and participate in unit goals and performance improvement activities.
- Promote a safe, clean, and secure hospital environment.
- Assess and anticipate discharge needs, and develop relationships with families to support advocacy.
- Collaborate with patients/families and multidisciplinary resources in care planning.
- Address cultural and ethnic issues in patient care planning.
- Prioritize tasks for patients with complex problems.
- Engage in research by reading relevant journals and contributing ideas for practice improvement.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Minimum 1 year of experience in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), including Trauma ICU experience
- Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited school of nursing
Preferred Qualifications
- BSN or MSN from an accredited school of Nursing.
