Respiratory Therapist Travel Job - Wisconsin (Ashland)

Job Overview

A Critical Access Hospital in Wisconsin is seeking a Respiratory Therapist traveler. The role involves working with mostly adult patients, with some pediatric and neonatal cases primarily for stabilization and transfer.

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

Work Environment & Patient Population

• Patient types: Mostly adults, some pediatrics (stabilize until transfer), neonates (up to 28 days) for high-risk C-sections and PPV support before transfer.
• Areas covered: Emergency Room (ER), Special Care Unit (SPCU), Obstetrics (OB) with high-risk C-sections, Stress Lab, Pulmonary Function Test (PFT) lab, EEG lab.
• Outpatient training/competency may be available depending on contract length and availability.

Schedule

• Shifts: Days and nights (NOCs work independently; lunch is paid during night shifts).
• Shift length: 12 hours (6:00-6:30).
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend.
• Holiday requirement: Work holidays if on block schedule; flexibility to fill in as needed.
• No call or standby call required.
• Some block schedules available but limited.

Required Certifications & Skills

• ACLS, BLS, NRP certifications required.
• Experience with mechanical ventilation including NIV using Hamilton C1 ventilators.
• Proficient in all types of inhalation therapy, EKGs, ABGs, ISTAT.
• Experience with Neo puff and support for high-risk C-sections.
• Ability to assist with intubation (independent intubation not required).
• Preferred: Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Job Duties

• Draw arterial blood gases (ABGs).
• Perform EKGs using ISTAT.
• Set up Holter monitors.
• May teach in Stress Lab, PFT lab, and EEG lab.

Equipment

• Hamilton C1 and T1 ventilators.
• ResMed home CPAP/BiPAP devices.

Orientation

• Department-specific orientation includes one 12-hour shadowing shift.
• Access to all necessary systems provided by the Director.

Required Experience

• Minimum 1 year of experience as a Respiratory Therapist.

Prior Travel Experience

• Not explicitly required.

Required License

• Valid Respiratory Therapist license for Wisconsin.
