Position Details

• Job Title: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse
• Employment Type: Travel/Contract
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Start Date: ASAP
• Shift Options: 48-hour or 36-hour shifts
• Nursing Model: Team nursing ratios (discuss during interview)
• On-Call: As needed
• Weekend Requirement: As needed (no weekend block schedule, but weekend block may be considered)
• Locals Accepted: No (strict 100-mile radius rule)
• First-Timers: Not accepted (prior travel experience required)

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
• Minimum 2 years of experience in Medical Surgical and/or Telemetry nursing, with experience within the last year
• Experience working with Level I Trauma patients in an Acute Care setting
• Completion of at least one prior travel nursing assignment
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA or ARC only, required for all candidates
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): AHA or ARC only, required for Medical Surgical/Telemetry units
• NIH Stroke Scale Certification: Required for all RNs except those working at the Children's Hospital
• Other certifications such as PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM are not required for this position

Health & Compliance Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start, attesting ability to meet job demands
• Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start (no pending results accepted)
• Immunizations:

  • Proof of immunity or vaccination for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B
  • TB test (2-step PPD, Q-Gold, or T-spot) within 1 year, updated annually
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
• Fit test for 3M N-95 mask within 1 year (if applicable)

Background & Documentation

• Background check within 60 days of start including statewide, county, federal, and education verification
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and annually thereafter
• Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry and Sex Offender Search required
• Two recent professional references required
• Skills checklist and internal evaluation required if employed with agency for 1 year or more

Additional Notes

• Pending licenses are not accepted; all licenses must be active and compliant with NLC
• Strict documentation and submission deadlines apply, including photo badge requirements
• Dress code: Navy blue scrubs for RNs, no prints or embroidered scrubs allowed
• Candidates must submit all required documents at time of submission; requests sent after offer will not be approved

This position is ideal for experienced Medical Surgical RNs with trauma and large hospital experience who have prior travel contract experience and are ready for a 13-week travel assignment in a Level I Trauma Center.
