Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Bridgeport, West Virginia
Specialty: MedSurg/Oncology (6S Post-Op/Oncology/Tele)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Details

• Unit: 6S Post-OP/Oncology/Tele
• Beds: 36 (all private rooms)
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Typically 1:5-6
• Common Patient Types:

  • General MedSurg patients
  • Post-Op patients (lap chole, lap appy; no post-op ortho)
  • Oncology patients with complications (neutropenic precautions, pneumonia, infections)
  • Patients with chest tubes, including malignant patients discharged with PleurX chest tubes (experience with PleurX is a plus)
  • Occasional psychiatric patients requiring 1:1 sitter

Required Qualifications

• License: Registered Nurse (RN) license required
• Certifications:

  • BLS (AHA) required
  • ONS/ONCC (Chemotherapy Biotherapy) certification is a plus
• Experience:

  • Experience with MedSurg and oncology patients strongly preferred
  • Experience administering chemotherapy is a plus
  • Experience with PleurX chest tubes is highly desirable
• Skills:

  • Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips (Phillips monitors used)
  • Ability to titrate Heparin drips (no cardiac drips required)
• Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required

Work Environment & Scheduling

• Shift Hours: 12-hour shifts (7 AM - 7 PM and 7 PM - 7 AM)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Saturday/Sunday) for both day and night shifts
• Holiday Requirement: Work holidays as part of the rotation with permanent staff
• Charge Nurse: Available 24/7; day shift charge nurse does not take patient assignments, night shift charge nurse does
• Support Staff: 3 CNAs on day shift and 3 CNAs on night shift
• Respiratory Equipment: CPAP and BiPAP available; respiratory therapists manage respiratory treatments
• Floating: Staff may float to any MedSurg/Tele unit; travelers may be required to float
• Dress Code: Royal blue scrubs for RNs
• Orientation: Unit-specific orientation with preceptor (number of shifts not specified)
• Additional Notes:

  • No false nails allowed
  • 50-mile radius rule for submissions

This position is ideal for RNs with MedSurg and oncology experience who are comfortable working in a telemetry environment with a diverse patient population including post-op and oncology patients.
