Description
Job Opportunity: RN MedSurg - Infectious Disease Unit
Location: Parkersburg, West Virginia
Discipline: Registered Nurse (RN)

Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Unit Details
- 18-bed unit, all private rooms due to Infectious Diseases
- Patient types include Infectious Disease, Isolation, COVID, MRSA, C-Diff, etc.
- Nurse-to-patient ratios:
- 1:5-6 typically
- 1:4 if COVID positive
- Staffing: 3-4 RNs per shift, plus 2 CNAs per shift
- Charge Nurse available 24/7 (day charge may take patients if needed; night charge always takes full patient assignment)
- No ventilators on unit; patients may be on CPAP, BiPAP, or High Flow oxygen managed by Respiratory Therapy
- Remote telemetry monitoring from another floor; RNs do not interpret telemetry strips
Shifts & Scheduling
- 12-hour shifts: 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM and 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM (with a 30-minute lunch break)
- Permanent staff self-schedule; travelers scheduled as needed with some block scheduling possible
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend
- Night weekend shifts: Friday, Saturday, Sunday
- Day weekend shifts: Saturday, Sunday
- Holiday shifts depend on unit needs; travelers may be expected to work holidays if permanent staff coverage is insufficient
Floating & Call Requirements
- Travelers are first to float, required to float to any MedSurg units
- If floated to Telemetry, patient assignments will be within RN skillset
- Call or standby may be required depending on contract and census
Orientation
- 1 day EPIC electronic health record orientation
- 1 day floor orientation with preceptor
- 3rd day working independently
- Orientation scheduled on 12-hour day shifts, including weekends as scheduled
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Current RN license for West Virginia
- BLS (AHA) certification required
- Must have an unexpired driver’s license
Experience & Skills
- Strong knowledge and experience in Medical-Surgical nursing, Infectious Disease, and Isolation precautions
- No cardiac drip titration required
- Experience with typical MedSurg IV medications and antibiotics, including Heparin drip management
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required
Dress Code
- Royal blue scrubs required
- Scrub jackets optional but must be royal blue scrub jackets (no hoodies or sweatshirts)
This position is ideal for RNs with solid MedSurg and Infectious Disease experience looking for a 13-week travel assignment in West Virginia.
