Job Opportunity: Ortho Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel/Contract
Location: Springfield, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Orthopedic Registered Nurse (Ortho RN)
- Shift: Nights (4x12 or 3x12 hour shifts, 18:45 - 07:15)
- Unit Size: 38 beds
- Work Schedule: Must work every other weekend
- Floating: May float to other Medical-Surgical departments as needed
- Block Schedule: Not accommodated
- Locals Accepted: Yes, no radius restrictions
- On-call: None required
Required Experience & Skills
- Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty required
- Prior Travel Experience: Preferred but not required
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred
- Special Skills:
- IV therapy and phlebotomy skills required (including PICC line management and starting IVs)
- Telemetry experience preferred
- Cerner electronic health record experience preferred
License Requirements
- Must have an active Illinois RN license (pending licenses not accepted)

- Acute Care Hospital, Level I Trauma Center
- Magnet recognized facility
- Total staffed beds: 562
- Charting system: Cerner
- Scrub color: Any solid color
- Parking permit required (no cost)
Additional Requirements & Compliance
- Background checks including criminal, sex offender, and state-specific searches required within 30 days of start
- Drug screening (9-panel) required within 30 days of start
- Physical exam required within 1 year of start, including labs within 7 days of contract signing
- Fit mask test required (specific mask types accepted)
- Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
- Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
- Competency exam and skills checklist required
- Two professional references required
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- Minimum 2 years of orthopedic nursing experience, with orthopedic experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Proficient in PICC line management
- Skilled in starting IVs
Notes
- Candidate may be called off up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without pay for those hours
- Ideally, no more than 5 days off during the contract
- Badge photo required before start
- Various state-specific registry checks and documentation required prior to start
This position is suitable for RNs with orthopedic experience seeking a travel contract in a Level I trauma, Magnet hospital setting with night shifts and a 13-week commitment.
