ICU Registered Nurse (RN) Travel Assignment

Location: Kearney, Nebraska
Specialty: ICU (Intensive Care Unit)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

Seeking an experienced ICU RN for a travel assignment starting ASAP in Central Nebraska. The role requires experience with balloon pumps and invasive arterial line monitoring. The RN will primarily work in a 10-bed ICU with an average daily census of 5+ patients. Patient population includes adults and children under 8 years old requiring ICU care, with common diagnoses such as open heart surgery, CHF, COPD, overdoses, sepsis, strokes, DKA, and neurological cases (no ICP monitoring yet).

The RN must be flexible to float to Progressive Care Unit (PCU) and Medical-Surgical units as needed. Travelers are prioritized for floating. Weekend and holiday shifts are required, with typically 2 weekends per month and up to 2 extra mandatory overtime shifts every 6 weeks. Punctuality and attendance are critical, with termination possible after 3 call-outs.


Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years ICU experience, including cardiac experience (higher years of experience requirement confirmed)
  • Experience with:
    • Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP)
    • Impella device
    • Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
    • Day 2/Day 3 post-op Coronary Artery Bypass Grafts (CABGs)
  • Current Nebraska or multi-state compact RN license, active and in good standing
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) — required for all; pediatric experience highly preferred
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • EPIC electronic health record experience preferred

Schedule & Expectations

  • Shifts: 0600-1830 or 1800-0630
  • Floating to PCU and Med Surg as needed
  • Weekend shifts: typically 2 per month, may be more
  • Holidays: 1 major and 1 minor every other week
  • May require up to 2 extra shifts every 6 weeks
  • Strict attendance policy; punctuality required
