Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) – DMCC Acute Rehab Unit

Unit Details

• Unit Type: Acute Rehab
• Number of Beds: 29
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • Day shift: 5:1
  • Night shift: 6:1
• Common Patient Diagnoses: Neuro, Neurosurgery, Amputations, Multi-trauma, Cardiac, Complex medical (trachs, no vents)
• Rehab Services Available: PT, OT, Speech Therapy
• Respiratory Equipment: CPAP/BiPAP (night use for sleep apnea), Nasal cannula (including high flow but no heated high flow)

Schedule & Work Requirements

• Shifts:

  • Day: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
  • Night: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday rotation
• Call/Standby: None required
• Floating: Yes, float to LTAC and med-surg units; no float to HAU unless trained
• Orientation:

  • 2 days classroom orientation
  • 2-3 shifts with a preceptor (day or night)
  • Training includes QRP and rehab-specific documentation

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license (or application in process)
• BLS (AHA) certification required
• Strong neuro skills required
• No requirement for RN to titrate drips except heparin
• Must attend team conferences for acute inpatient rehab
• Drug-free workplace: negative drug screen required

Additional Notes

• Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius
• Nurse aides present with a ratio of approximately 1:9 or 1:10
• Telemetry available but not monitored by RN; RN uses tele packs
• Dress code: Any color scrubs allowed; no t-shirts unless approved

Experience Requirements

• Specialty Experience: Strong neuro skills implied; no explicit years stated, assume minimum 1+ year RN experience in neuro or rehab preferred
• Prior travel experience: Not required

This position is ideal for RNs with acute rehab experience seeking a 13-week contract in a supportive, multidisciplinary environment with a focus on neuro and complex medical patients.
