Job Opportunity: OR Tech / Surgical Tech
Location: Santa Rosa, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking an experienced OR Tech / Surgical Tech for an acute care facility. The position requires floating and call duties as needed. Weekend shifts are scheduled per unit needs.
Required Experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience in Surgical Services (preferably 5 years)
- Prior travel experience not required (First Time Traveler: No)
Licensure
- California state license preferred
- Pending license accepted
Certifications (as applicable)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) - Current certification by AAP, AHA, or Canadian Paediatric Society
- Chemotherapy certification (if applicable)
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification (if applicable)
- IV Certification (if applicable)
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) (if applicable)
- NIH Stroke Certification (if applicable)
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) (if applicable)
Note: Certification requirements depend on the specific clinical track and unit.
Job Duties & Requirements
- Call and float responsibilities required
- Must adhere to Return to Work (RTO) restrictions: no more than 7 days off
- Scrub attire or business casual dress code
- Daily census approximately 25 patients with 8 rooms
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
Background Checks
- Comprehensive background check within 45 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated monthly
- Education verification required for all candidates
- State-specific searches as applicable (e.g., Washington, Oregon)
Health & Immunizations
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
- Fit mask test (annual, travel only)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season
- COVID vaccine or declination
References & Employment History
- Minimum 2 references covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty/setting
- Employment application covering at least the last 5 years (7 years for APN/Subcontractors) with month/year format
Competency Exams
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Specialty-specific competency exams (e.g., EFM training for L&D RNs)
Training & Modules
- Completion of required WorkRamp modules prior to start, including:
- Annual regulatory requirements
- Specialty-specific modules (ER, L&D, Leadership roles, etc.)
- Regional and facility-specific modules as assigned
- Epic access training modules required for certain regions and roles
Additional Notes
- Float policy acknowledgment required; may be asked to float to other nearby facilities
- Background and health documentation must be current and compliant with facility and state regulations
- All certifications and licenses must be verified and up to date
Requirements/Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist
- Surgical Technologist experience within the last year
- Completion of at least one travel assignment as a Surgical Technologist
