Job Opportunity: ER Registered Nurse (RN)
Location: Iron Mountain, Michigan
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking an experienced ER RN to work in a Level IV Trauma Emergency Department. The unit has 14 beds including 2 trauma bays, a fast track area, triage rooms, and psych/seclusion rooms. The ER treats 40-60 patients daily with a variety of cases including trauma, STEMI, strokes, MVAs, and farming-related injuries.
Required Qualifications
- License: Must have a valid Michigan RN license in hand
- Certifications: ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), PALS (AHA), TNCC
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department experience (higher value from data)
- Prior travel experience is not required (first-time travelers and duos are acceptable)
Work Environment & Details
- Trauma Level IV; no stroke or STEMI receiving (patients are sent out)
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:3-4 during the day; fewer nurses at night (2 RNs after 3 am)
- 24/7 in-house ED physician coverage
- Support staff includes CNAs, medics, LPNs, but no dedicated ER team; float staff assist with tasks
- Respiratory Therapists available 24/7 for ABGs, breathing treatments, and EKG assistance
- No monitor techs; RNs read their own cardiac strips
- X-ray and CT available 24/7 nearby
- Phlebotomy available 24/7; RNs do not draw labs
- Shifts: 7, 10, 12-hour shifts; schedule created by manager with variable start times
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday)
- Holiday requirement: approximately 2 out of 3 holidays during winter, usually every other holiday during contract
- Call/standby: voluntary to go home without pay
- Floating: may be required to float to inpatient units for assistance
- Dress code: any solid color, clean and professional
- Orientation: computer-based training plus 2 days floor orientation and policy review
Additional Notes
- Clinicians who have previously worked for this healthcare system must have a minimum 6-month gap since last employment
- All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
This position is ideal for ER nurses with solid trauma experience looking for a 13-week contract in Michigan. Prior travel experience is not mandatory.
