Job Opportunity: ICU/Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN)
Location: Ranson, West Virginia
Specialty: SCU/Tele - ICU/Telemetry
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Smaller community hospital with a 6-bed ICU/Telemetry unit (5 ICU beds, 5 Telemetry beds total).
- Assignment primarily day shifts with occasional night or evening shifts.
- 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm and 7pm-7am).
- Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule (Fri/Sat nights, Sat/Sun days).
- Holiday work integrated into permanent staff holiday rotation.
- Floating to MedSurg with full assignment (ratios 1:5-6) is rare but possible.
- Orientation: 1 shift on the unit with a preceptor.
- Patient types: Trauma, bowel obstructions, COPD, vented overdoses, COVID-19 patients, surgical patients, etc.
- Unit uses Phillips Cardiac Monitors; ventilators, BiPAP, CPAP, and High-Flow oxygen available.
- Hospitalist coverage 7am-5pm; family medicine resident covers after hours.
- Respiratory Therapy available 24/7; pharmacy support available but not in-house 24/7.
- No charge nurse currently; when re-established, charge nurse will have a lighter patient load.
- Nurse aide support with 1 PCT per 10 patients; tech coverage varies by shift.
Required Qualifications
- Current West Virginia RN license.
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years in ICU/Telemetry or critical care nursing (based on specialty and job requirements).
- Must be fully COVID vaccinated or complete exemption process.
- Professional appearance required: Navy blue scrubs (traveler provides own), natural hair color, and tattoos must be covered if excessive or distasteful.
Additional Information
- Patient-to-nurse ratios range from 1:3 to 1:5 depending on acuity.
- EMR system: EPIC.
- Drip infusions and ventilator management expected.
- Positive attitude and willingness to work night shifts, weekends, and holidays are essential.
- Travelers cannot self-schedule but block scheduling may be accommodated based on unit needs.
