Job Opportunity: RN Step Down - Travel Assignment
Location: Waco, Texas
Employment Type: Travel
Job Description
- Minimum 3 years of RN Step Down experience required
- Clinical skills and experience with:
- HFNC (High Flow Nasal Cannula)
- BIPAP
- Stable GTT (Glucose Tolerance Test) management
- Post-op day 1 care for CABG, AVR, MVR
- Cardiovascular and vascular experience including AAA repair, lobectomy, CEA
- Management of NSTEMI, STEMI, ACS
- Pacers, sepsis, gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB), post DKA, respiratory failure, tracheostomies
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Required Qualifications
Licenses & Certifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas with primary source verification within 30 days prior to start
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - Must be AHA certified
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) - Must be AHA certified
Exams & Competencies
- Specialty competency exam in RN Step Down area (minimum 80% passing score, 2 attempts allowed)
- Ascension Core Competencies including HIPAA, Joint Commission, NPSG, OSHA topics (updated every 3 years)
- NIH Certification (updated yearly or every 2 years depending on group)
- Ascension EKG Exam (passing score of at least 80%, updated every 3 years)
- Ascension Skills Checklist (clinical skills checklist, updated annually)
- Ascension Epic Test-Out (required for Epic system proficiency)
Health & Immunizations
- MMR: Documented proof of two vaccines or positive IGG titer (no declinations accepted)
- Hepatitis B: Documentation of vaccination series completion or signed declination
- Influenza Vaccine: Required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31), exemptions accepted with mask requirement
- Varicella: Proof of immunity or two doses of vaccine (no declinations accepted)
- Tdap: Valid within last 10 years (no declinations accepted)
- TB Screening: Positive IGRA or PPD results, negative chest X-ray within 1 year, and annual TB questionnaire
- Fit Test: Required annually (preferred prior to start)
Background & Verification
- Criminal background check including Social Security Trace, OIG Search, National Sex Offender Registry, and others within 30 days of assignment start
- Employment verification for past 7 years
- Education verification relevant to clinical work within 90 days of start
- Drug screening: 12 panel urine drug screen within 30 days prior to start, updated annually
Other Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License or State ID (must match address on file and comply with compact license rules)
- Health statement or physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually
- Completion of onboarding requirements including Ascension-specific education attestations and contract worker onboarding
Prior Travel Experience
- No explicit prior travel experience required
