Travel/Contract Registered Nurse (Med Surg RN - Urology/Nephrology)
Location: Springfield, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Specialty: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (Urology/Nephrology)
- Shift: Nights, either 4x12 or 3x12 (1845-0715)
- Unit: 25 bed unit, average daily census 23
- Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
- Floating: May float to other Medical Surgical units within scope
- Block Scheduling: May try to accommodate but not guaranteed
- Local Candidates: Accepted, no radius restrictions
- On-call: Not required
- Charge Nurse: Will work charge as needed
Required Experience & Skills
- Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years in medical/surgical nursing (higher value confirmed)
- First-time Travelers: Accepted if they have a solid RN foundation and >2 years med/surg experience
- Required Clinical Experience:
- Medical/Surgical and Telemetry experience
- Cardiac monitoring and emergency response (telemetry, rapid response teams)
- Genitourinary/Renal care (pre/post hemodialysis management, renal failure)
- IV therapy/phlebotomy (blood product administration, central line blood draw, peripheral line care, PICC line management, starting IVs)
- Medication skills (heparin administration)
- Respiratory care (chest tubes, CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, portable oxygen)
- Professional knowledge (isolation precautions, wound care/wound vac)
- Electronic Medical Record: Cerner experience required
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Medical Surgical and Telemetry experience
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing
- Experience with Rapid Response Teams
- Blood product administration skills
- Central line blood draw experience
- Peripheral line care and management
- PICC line management
- Starting IVs
- Heparin administration
- Experience with chest tubes including Emerson/Pleur-evac systems
- CPAP/BiPAP experience
- High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) experience
- Experience using Cerner electronic medical records
Additional Notes
- RTO Restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days off
- Guaranteed Hours: Client may cancel up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without pay; excess cancellations billed
- Scrub Color: Any solid color scrubs allowed
- Parking: Permit required, no cost
Prior Travel Experience
- Not explicitly required; first-time travelers accepted with solid RN foundation and >2 years med/surg experience
This position is ideal for experienced Med Surg RNs with strong clinical skills in urology/nephrology and telemetry, comfortable working night shifts and floating within medical surgical units.
