Travel/Contract Registered Nurse (Med Surg RN - Urology/Nephrology)

Location: Springfield, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Specialty: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (Urology/Nephrology)
• Shift: Nights, either 4x12 or 3x12 (1845-0715)
• Unit: 25 bed unit, average daily census 23
• Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
• Floating: May float to other Medical Surgical units within scope
• Block Scheduling: May try to accommodate but not guaranteed
• Local Candidates: Accepted, no radius restrictions
• On-call: Not required
• Charge Nurse: Will work charge as needed

Required Experience & Skills

• Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years in medical/surgical nursing (higher value confirmed)
• First-time Travelers: Accepted if they have a solid RN foundation and >2 years med/surg experience
• Required Clinical Experience:

  • Medical/Surgical and Telemetry experience
  • Cardiac monitoring and emergency response (telemetry, rapid response teams)
  • Genitourinary/Renal care (pre/post hemodialysis management, renal failure)
  • IV therapy/phlebotomy (blood product administration, central line blood draw, peripheral line care, PICC line management, starting IVs)
  • Medication skills (heparin administration)
  • Respiratory care (chest tubes, CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, portable oxygen)
  • Professional knowledge (isolation precautions, wound care/wound vac)
• Electronic Medical Record: Cerner experience required

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Illinois
• Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• Medical Surgical and Telemetry experience
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing
• Experience with Rapid Response Teams
• Blood product administration skills
• Central line blood draw experience
• Peripheral line care and management
• PICC line management
• Starting IVs
• Heparin administration
• Experience with chest tubes including Emerson/Pleur-evac systems
• CPAP/BiPAP experience
• High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) experience
• Experience using Cerner electronic medical records

Additional Notes

• RTO Restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days off
• Guaranteed Hours: Client may cancel up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without pay; excess cancellations billed
• Scrub Color: Any solid color scrubs allowed
• Parking: Permit required, no cost

Prior Travel Experience

• Not explicitly required; first-time travelers accepted with solid RN foundation and >2 years med/surg experience

This position is ideal for experienced Med Surg RNs with strong clinical skills in urology/nephrology and telemetry, comfortable working night shifts and floating within medical surgical units.
