Job Opportunity: RN - Med Surg Telemetry
Location: Reno, Nevada
Employment Type: Travel
Position Overview
- Role: Registered Nurse (RN)
- Department: Telemetry T7
- Shift: Nights (3 shifts of 12 hours; 18:45 - 07:15)
- Weekly Hours: 36 guaranteed
- Call Requirements: None
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Description
- 38-bed telemetry unit staffed with RNs, CNAs, Critical Care Techs (CCTs), and Advanced Care Techs (ACTs)
- Patient ratios typically range from 1:4 to 1:6 depending on acuity
- CCTs monitor ECG rhythms 24/7
- ACTs assist with transport, admissions, discharges, IV and Foley insertions, ADLs, and limited medication administration
- Patient population includes CHF, Alcohol Withdrawal, NSTEMI, sepsis, dysrhythmias, pneumonia, COPD, COVID, post-procedure care (pacemakers, ablations, cath lab), and open heart surgery patients downgraded from ICU
- Medications include non-titratable cardiac drips such as Cardizem, Lasix, Nitro
- May float to ICU, medical-surgical units, or other hospital locations as needed
Schedule & Additional Requirements
- May be required to float within competency level
- Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays (holiday shifts count as Eve + Day = 1 holiday)
- Required to pick up one additional shift every 4 weeks
- Schedule may include weekends, holidays, and some call shifts
- Employer may cancel shifts with 48 hours’ notice for low census during the 13-week contract
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Nevada
- Minimum 2 years of telemetry nursing experience, including telemetry experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIHSS certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience working with adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
Work Environment
- Level 2 trauma center with a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- 800 inpatient beds, 80 ER beds
- Serves a 500-mile radius
- Stroke accredited
Job Purpose
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients and their families
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care using nursing process
- Coordinate care with other healthcare professionals
- Deliver care that meets unit-specific competency standards and quality measures
