Job Opportunity: Radiation Therapist (Rad Therapist)
Location: Reno, Nevada
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
This position involves administering prescribed therapeutic radiation doses to predetermined treatment areas for patients. The Radiation Therapist is responsible for localization procedures, patient support, education, and teaching cancer patients and their families. The role also includes assisting in onboarding new team members and educating students.
Work Schedule
- Shift: 36 guaranteed hours per week; Monday to Friday, 6:15 AM – 6:00 PM, with varied shifts.
- Option to work full 40 hours or flex 4 hours.
- If patient census is low, schedule may change to 4x10 hours.
- May include weekends, holidays, and some call shifts.
- Required to pick up one additional shift during the schedule period.
- Call requirements to be discussed during the interview.
- The facility may call off shifts with 48 hours’ notice due to low census (full or partial shifts).
Required Qualifications
- Valid Radiation Therapist license in Nevada
- Minimum 3 years of Radiation Therapist experience, including experience within the last year
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Experience working with adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
Job Responsibilities
- Administer radiation therapy accurately and safely.
- Perform localization, basic dosimetry, custom block fabrication, and charting.
- Operate linear accelerators, simulators, electronic health records, record and verify systems, and other department software.
- Provide patient care and education, including skin instruction.
- Support nursing and secretarial tasks as needed.
- Assist in onboarding and educating new team members and students.
- Maintain proficiency in body mechanics, fire safety, infection control, patient safety, and CPR annually.
- Complete annual core competencies and department-specific workflow competencies within 3 months of hire and annually thereafter.

- The role requires prioritization and evaluation skills to provide optimal patient care.
- The facility is a Level II Trauma Center with advanced technology and comprehensive cancer services.
- May be required to float to other areas within competency level.
