Travel/Contract Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical)

Location: Augusta, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 14 weeks


Patient Population

  • Adults to Geriatrics

Unit & Work Setting

  • General Medical Surgical Unit
  • Ratio: 1:6
  • Unit Systems: Epic, Pyxis, SBAR
  • Scrub Color: Navy Blue
  • Floating: Yes, within facility/scope of practice as needed
  • Weekends: Every other weekend
  • Return to Orientation (RTO): Maximum 7 days
  • RTO Blackout Dates: Spring Break (April 4th-12th)

Holidays

  • If 1 major holiday falls during assignment, traveler expected to work it
  • If 2 major holidays fall, traveler expected to work both
  • If 3 major holidays fall, traveler expected to work 2 of them
  • Major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Years Eve/Day

Required Qualifications

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of specialty experience (Medical Surgical)
  • 1st time travelers accepted
  • Prior travel experience: Not required

Licenses & Certifications

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Georgia
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
  • ACLS, PALS, NRP, NIH Stroke Certification: Refer to unit specifics; generally not required for Med Surg
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit assignment

Compliance & Documentation

  • Background check required within 30 days of start
  • Education verification required (degree verification or transcripts)
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months
  • Drug screening (10 panel) within 60 days of start
  • Immunizations: MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tdap (highly recommended)
  • Flu vaccine or declination required during flu season
  • Annual NURSYS license verification
  • Skills checklist within 12 months
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required by Aya
  • Color blind testing required
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required if assigned to Tele, ICU, or similar units (not typical for Med Surg)

Additional Information

  • Number of non-billable orientation hours depends on contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8 weeks)
  • Full compliance required to start on time; delays in compliance may push start date by 2 weeks due to orientation scheduling
  • Locals accepted at same rate
  • Candidate must review and sign facility Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance policies prior to start

Summary

This is a travel contract RN position in a Medical Surgical unit caring for adult to geriatric patients. The assignment is approximately 14 weeks long with a 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio. The role requires at least 1 year of Med Surg experience, BLS certification, and an active Georgia RN license. Prior travel experience is not required. The position includes floating within the facility as needed and working every other weekend. Compliance with background checks, immunizations, drug screening, and competency exams is mandatory before starting.
