Registered Nurse (MedSurg/Tele 4N Neuro) - Omaha, Nebraska

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

Unit Description

• Med Surg Neuro - 4th Floor North
• 25 beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5-6
• Patient types: MedSurg/Tele patients including strokes, stable neurological deficits, post-neurosurgery, joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbations, prostatectomy, cellulitis, sepsis, ortho trauma, GI bleeds, pneumonia, failure to thrive
• No respiratory therapy equipment troubleshooting required

Shift & Scheduling

• Shifts: 0630-1900 and 1830-0700 (12-hour shifts)
• Travelers will be scheduled; limited block scheduling available
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday requirement: 2-3 holidays between Thanksgiving and New Year’s
• Floating required to other MedSurg areas or units with MedSurg patients waiting for beds

Orientation & Training

• Unit-specific orientation: 2 days
• RN pass/fail exam during orientation (open book, 90% required to pass)
• Mechanical lifts available in every other room

Clinical Responsibilities

• RN required to titrate drips: Heparin, lidocaine, ketamine
• Common drips: PCA pumps
• Charge nurse present on each shift and takes assignment
• Nurse aides/patient care techs present (ratio approx. 1:10-20)
• Tele/Monitor techs interpret strips; RNs should have tele awareness

Required Certifications & Licenses

• Current RN license
• BLS (AHA)
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Additional Requirements & Notes

• Artificial nails prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply results in contract termination
• Driver’s license required at submission to verify candidate location (must be outside 50-mile radius of certain facilities)
• Preference for candidates with prior travel experience, but strong candidates without travel experience will be considered
• Focus on hourly rounding and responsiveness
• Successful nurses are team players, compassionate, reliable, and able to manage multiple admissions and discharges daily
• Patient population includes diverse cultures (Spanish, Karen, Burmese)
• Scrub color: Navy blue for RNs
