Registered Nurse - ICU

Location: Seguin, Texas
Contract Length: 8 weeks

Job Overview

Seeking a travel Registered Nurse with ICU specialty to support a hospital near San Antonio, TX. The nurse will primarily work in the ICU but must be willing to float to Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) and Medical-Surgical (MedSurg) areas as needed.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of recent ICU nursing experience
• Current Texas RN license or compact license
• ACLS and BLS certifications required
• NIHSS and PALS certifications preferred (PALS may be negotiable or offered on-site)

Work Details

• 12-hour shifts, every other weekend required (Saturday/Sunday count as weekend)
• Holiday work included as part of permanent staff rotation
• Nurse-to-patient ratios typically 1:2, sometimes 1:1 depending on acuity
• Occasional 1:3 ratio or higher if holding overflow patients
• Charge nurse duties with full patient load possible
• Floating expected to Medical, Surgical, IPRU, and possibly ER (non-trauma/non-resuscitation patients only)
• Orientation includes 2 shifts with a preceptor after initial HR check-in
• EMR system: MediTech Expanse
• Tele/Monitor techs and respiratory therapists available 24/7
• Pharmacy available on-call nights and limited weekend coverage

Patient Population & Clinical Notes

• ICU beds: 9 (average daily census 6)
• Common diagnoses: Pneumonia, Sepsis, Acute Renal Failure, CHF, COPD, cardiac drips, post-op abdominal surgery, extubation issues, post cath lab patients
• Some pediatric patients (non-severe, non-intubated)
• Experience with drips, ventilators (Avea), and post cath care beneficial

• Must be independent and comfortable with ICU skill level
• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required
