Job Opportunity: Labor & Delivery RN
Location: Show Low, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (6 PM - 6 AM), three 12-hour shifts per week
Weekend Requirement: Minimum 3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule (flexible coverage)
Start Date: ASAP
Orientation: Every Monday
Job Description
Seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery RN for a regional hospital in Arizona. This role involves working in a unit with:
- 7 Labor & Delivery beds
- 2 Triage beds
- 10 Postpartum beds
- Approximately 1-3 births per day (about 830 births per year)
- Typical nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:2
Nurses must be proficient in fetal monitoring and managing fetal distress, caring for high-risk patients including those with pre-eclampsia, and handling OB emergencies independently until providers arrive (no in-house OB/Neonatologist). C-section experience is required. The nurse may also float to Emergency Department or Medical-Surgical units if experienced.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Arizona
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 3 years of Labor & Delivery nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience working with high-risk patients
- Proficient in Intermediate Fetal Monitoring or AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring
- Proficiency in fetal monitoring and actions taken for fetal distress
- C-section experience
- Certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
Additional Information
- Call requirement: One shift per 4-week schedule
- Support staff includes Respiratory Therapist (24/7), OB scrub tech, Patient Care Technicians, and Health Unit Secretary
- 24/7 pharmacy available onsite
- May provide couplet care when census is low
- Floating to other units (usually Med-Surg) may be required
- Orientation and start dates are flexible with weekly onboarding
Notes for Candidates
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required
- Must be comfortable working independently in a high-acuity OB setting without in-house OB providers
- Strong assessment skills and ability to manage emergencies are essential
- Weekend shifts are required but scheduling is flexible as long as coverage is maintained
