Registered Nurse - Observation Unit
Location: Urbana, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
The Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional nursing care to a group of patients during a designated time frame. Responsibilities include:
- Performing duties specific to the unit’s scope of service
- Implementing nursing procedures and theories related to the area of practice
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date documentation of nursing care
- Completing initial patient assessments and developing plans of care based on patient and family needs
- Implementing and modifying plans of care through continuous evaluation
- Ensuring patient and employee safety by reporting or correcting hazards
- Communicating effectively to resolve issues and support professional development of peers
- Identifying personal learning needs and pursuing solutions
- Meeting all departmental competency requirements
Department Specific Functions:
- Assess IV sites every 4 hours
- Start new IVs according to policy
- Maintain documentation standards as evidenced by quarterly chart audits
- Attend at least 5 out of 6 staff meetings annually
- Identify changes in patient status and respond appropriately
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
- Minimum 1 year of Direct Observation Unit (DOU) experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience in trauma nursing
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Education
- Required: Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN)
- Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
