Registered Nurse - Telemetry
Location: Alexandria, Louisiana
Employment Type: Travel
Shift: Nights (7 PM - 7 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Work Schedule: Full Time
Job Summary
Provide routine and complex nursing care independently in a telemetry setting. Manage patients with cardiac conditions including MI, CHF, arrhythmias, PVD, and some medical-surgical overflow. The unit manages cardiac drips (no nitrates). Floating to other units may be required. Weekend work every other weekend; no on-call required. Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 5:1, occasionally 6:1. Temp-to-perm opportunity possible.
Responsibilities
- Deliver nursing care using the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
- Address complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families.
- Administer medications and treatments per protocol; monitor for side effects and effectiveness.
- Document patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided.
- Assess learning needs and provide education to patients, families, and caregivers.
- Make appropriate assignments and delegate tasks to other care providers.
- Meet professional competencies and standards of practice.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Louisiana
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 1 year of telemetry nursing experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Patient Population
- Patients with myocardial infarction (MI), congestive heart failure (CHF), arrhythmias, peripheral vascular disease (PVD), and medical-surgical overflow.
Other Information
- Floating to other units as needed.
- Weekend work every other weekend.
- No on-call responsibilities.
- Nurse-to-patient ratio generally 5:1, sometimes 6:1.
