Location: Wilmington, North Carolina

Job Description
Seeking Med/Surg skilled Registered Nurses for a Medical Surgical/Oncology unit primarily caring for patients with oncology history. Night shifts available with a target nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6.
Shift: Nights
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend required
Call Requirement: Call required if called off on a prescheduled shift
Float Requirement: Floating to similar units and alternate inpatient care locations, including inpatient holding in the Emergency Department or other medical patient care areas
Additional: Contract staff may be assigned to Storm Team/Hurricane Team and may be required to work during catastrophic events, mass casualty, or disaster situations.
Patient Population & Unit Details
- General medical-surgical diagnoses with oncology history
- Administration of chemotherapy/biotherapy (IV, PO, or injection)
- Common diagnoses include AKI, Sepsis, Cancer, Septic shock, Pain management, Overdose, Malignant Neoplasms, ARF, Encephalopathy, Diabetic foot ulcers, Heparin drips
- Daily census approximately 42 patients; ratios may increase during high census periods
- Unit systems include PYXIS, EPIC, and SBAR for medication, documentation, and communication
- Unit orientation: 24 hours (2 shifts)
- Scrubs: Navy blue and white
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Oncology experience with a minimum of 2 years, including experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Chemotherapy administration experience
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience in an inpatient setting
- Med/Surg nursing experience
- Colostomy care
- Accessing ports
- Central line blood draws
- PICC line management
- Surgical drains management
- Chest tube management
Preferred Qualifications
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification
- Charge nurse experience
- Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN)
Additional Requirements & Notes
- Must pass EKG competency testing prior to start
- Attendance at monthly staff meetings required
- Shifts called out must be made up with rescheduled shifts
- Photo ID required for badge creation (passport-style photo on white background)
- Contract staff must complete various compliance, background checks, and health documentation as per standard travel healthcare requirements
- Flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
- Drug screening within 6 months of start date required
- TB screening and immunization verification required
- Orientation and mandatory education modules must be completed as assigned
