Description
Job Opportunity: Radiation Therapist
Location: Salem, Oregon
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Monday through Friday, between 6am and 7pm (40 hours per week)
Start Date: ASAP
On-Call: No call required
Job Description
- Simulate and administer radiation treatments to patients as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist and directed by the Radiation Physicist and Dosimetrist.
- Interpret prescription and treatment plans.
- Complete patient identification processes per department procedure.
- Maintain audio and visual surveillance of patients during treatment.
- Consistently and accurately position patients for treatment.
- Image patients as directed by the Radiation Oncologist.
- Annotate portal images appropriately.
- Observe patients for side effects or unusual reactions and report to appropriate staff.
- Use digital camera to document treatment position and tattoos or field borders on patient’s skin.
- Safely transfer patients using proper body mechanics.
- Perform simple RadCalc calculations for emergency treatments.
- Construct quality immobilization devices for reproducible patient positioning.
- Accurately tattoo patients and practice safe needle handling.
- Participate in daily chart rounds to coordinate patient care.
- Complete Aria chart checks per department policy.
- Perform weekly block room cleaning and HEPA filter checks.
- Accurately fabricate custom blocks.
- Coordinate simulation with clinic to support continuity of care.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Radiation Therapist license in Oregon
- Minimum of 1 year Radiation Therapist experience within the last year
- ARRT National Radiology License
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Successful completion of a Radiation Therapy program
- Experience with Varian TrueBeam or Edge, Aria systems preferred
Additional Requirements
- Physical exam within one year of start (can start with physical pending)
- Criminal background check within 90 days of start (7-year search)
- Drug testing (10 panel within 90 days of start)
- Immunizations and health screenings including:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Tdap vaccine or facility-specific declination
- Flu vaccine or signed declination (year-round)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity verification or vaccination
- Hepatitis B titer or vaccination series (booster or declination if low titer)
- Fit mask testing to be completed onsite within the first week of starting
- References: 2 references within the last 2 years showing 1 year in a comparable specialty; at least one supervisory reference within the last 12 months
