Description
Cardiovascular Intensive Care Nurse (CVICU RN) - Nights
Location: Great Falls, Montana
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Overview
- Provide care to hemodynamically stable or predictably unstable patients in a cardiac medical surgical unit.
- Care for immediate post-operative open heart patients from day one (recent open heart recovery experience required).
- Patient populations include pediatrics, pre/post PCI care, pacemaker, revascularization, carotid endarterectomy, thoracotomy, CHF, COPD, DKA, renal failure, DVT, PE, sepsis, and various surgical services.
- Operate advanced medical equipment including central lines, chest tubes, nasogastric tubes, continuous bladder irrigation, arterial lines (A-lines), multiple IVs, and short-term ventilation support.
- Provide direct patient care from admission to discharge, including discharge planning.
- Act as a clinical leader and assist with precepting staff.
Required Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent, plus degree from an accredited nursing program.
- Experience: Recent critical care experience required; open heart and CVICU experience preferred.
- Licensure/Certification:
- Current Montana RN license
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- Skills:
- Ability to operate advanced medical equipment (IV pumps, invasive lines, chest tubes, ventilatory support).
- Basic cardiac telemetry and EKG interpretation.
Work Environment & Relationships
- Works under direction of providers, charge nurse, ICU director, and CNO.
- Provides guidance to LPNs, CNAs, housekeeping, and dietary staff.
- Collaborates with healthcare professionals and allied health staff.
Additional Notes
- Critical care trained nurse needed for higher acuity cardiac patients.
- Must be able to assess and implement policies with minimal supervision.
