Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse
Location: Jacksonville, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Schedule: 4x12 hour shifts, nights (7 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Weekend shifts required
- No call responsibilities
- Must be willing to float as needed
- Unit size: 10 beds
- Nurse-to-patient ratio varies from 1:1 to 1:4 depending on labor stage
- Provides direct care to obstetrical patients including assessment, medication administration, provider order execution, documentation, and communication with care team
- Adheres to hospital policies and accreditation standards
- Block scheduling requests cannot be accommodated
- Candidates must be outside a 50-mile radius (no local candidates)
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in North Carolina
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 1 year of Labor and Delivery nursing experience within the last year
- Current certifications (must be valid prior to start):
- ACLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)
- STABLE certification
Additional Requirements and Information
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, education verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG screenings required
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (instant drug screens not accepted as final)
- Health documents required: Physical exam within 1 year, immunizations/vaccinations (Tdap, MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Flu seasonal vaccination during flu season), negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, COVID vaccination proof or declination form if unvaccinated
- Facility-specific documents and attestations must be completed and signed prior to start, including confidentiality, code of conduct, TB questionnaire, COVID-19 screening, and others as applicable
- Orientation includes LMS modules and may require completion of additional training such as Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) for ER nurses
- Flu vaccine required during flu season with medical or religious exemptions evaluated annually
- Ratio and care intensity vary based on labor stage; direct patient care focus on obstetrical patients
Summary
This is a night shift travel nursing contract for Labor and Delivery requiring 1 year of clinical experience and multiple current certifications. The role involves direct patient care in a 10-bed unit with variable nurse-to-patient ratios. Candidates must be willing to work weekends, float as needed, and comply with extensive background, health, and facility-specific requirements. Meditech experience is preferred but training is provided.
