Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - PCU

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Schedule: 3x12-hour night shifts
  • Workdays: Weekdays and some weekends, including rotating holidays
  • Float Requirement: Must be willing to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
  • Patient Ratio: Approximately 1 nurse to 3 patients
  • Specialty: Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
  • Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Proficient in IV start and telemetry skills
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Required Licenses & Certifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Ohio
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI accepted)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI accepted)
  • Additional certifications may be required based on unit assignment (e.g., NIH Stroke Certification, Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam)

Competencies & Exams

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required prior to start)
  • Unit-specific competency exams
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (exceptions apply)

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (must be completed prior to start)
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
  • Education accreditation verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
  • High school diploma or GED verification
  • Employment application and skills checklist required
  • Two professional references required (at least one from a manager or formal leadership role)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year of start, or TB questionnaire
  • Immunizations or titers required for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (titer or vaccine series)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (new travelers cannot start with pending drug screen)
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended

Facility Policies & Additional Requirements

  • Must review and sign dress code and hand hygiene policy
  • Annual acknowledgment of ethics and compliance policies
  • Fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required annually
  • Fingerprinting must be completed using specific state codes and within 1 year of start; new fingerprinting required if break in service exceeds 90 days
  • Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start

Notes

  • Prior travel nursing experience is preferred but not mandatory
  • Floating to other units of similar or lower acuity is required
  • Candidates must be prepared for night shift schedule and rotating holidays
  • All certifications must be current and verifiable prior to start
