Registered Nurse - Medical-Surgical

Location: Hermiston, Oregon
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

The Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse provides direct and individualized nursing care to adult patients before and after surgical procedures. Responsibilities include assessing patient conditions, administering medications, monitoring vital signs, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The nurse must respond quickly and accurately to changes in patient condition or treatment response and initiate the computerized Plan of Care on admission. General nursing duties may be performed in various departments under appropriate supervision.

  • Perform a variety of nursing duties, adapting efficiently to changing tasks
  • Take responsibility for planning, directing, and controlling nursing activities
  • Make evaluations and decisions based on measurable criteria
  • Work independently while maintaining patient confidentiality
  • Provide empathetic and compassionate care to patients experiencing pain, grief, or trauma
  • Communicate effectively with patients from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Support teamwork and cooperation among staff
  • Provide age-specific, cultural, physical, and psychosocial care
  • May be floated to other qualified departments as needed
  • Participate in required education programs related to quality and safety standards
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Oregon
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications
  • Evidence of continuing education appropriate for skill level and area of practice

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)
  • Certified Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (CMSRN)
  • Previous Medical-Surgical nursing experience
  • CRASE training (required if assignment extends beyond 6 months)

Specialty Experience

  • Medical-Surgical nursing experience preferred (no specific years stated)

Additional Notes

  • Nurses may be floated to other departments where qualified
  • Support of hospital mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures is expected
