Registered Nurse - CVICU
Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
Seeking experienced Registered Nurses for rapid response roles in cardiovascular intensive care settings including ECMO, LVAD, and Cath lab recovery. The position involves working in CVICU, progressive care (heart step-down), and Cath lab recovery units.
- Shift: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week, alternating weekends
- Scheduling: No special scheduling accommodations; overtime after 48 hours guaranteed
- Orientation: 4-hour hospital orientation plus an 8-hour floor shift
- Floating: Travelers may float to all areas within the unit
- Patient Ratios: Typically 2:1 or 1:1, occasionally 3:1 depending on acuity
- Unit Beds: 16
- Documentation System: Cerner
- Uniform Colors: Navy and white for RNs
Unit & Equipment
- Ventilators, telemetry, Baxter IV pumps
- Intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP), CRRT, Impella devices, hypothermia equipment
- Procedures performed: Cardioversion, central line insertion, EGD, bronchoscopy, chest tube insertion, pericardiocentesis, thoracentesis
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Proficient in titration of vesicant medications
- Familiarity with pressors and paralytics
- Experience with ventilators and tracheostomies
- Understanding of hemodynamics and PA catheter setup and interpretation
Additional Information
- Tobacco use is prohibited on campus and in designated parking areas
- No pullovers, hoodies, or green scrubs allowed except when uniform is soiled
- No unit secretaries or patient care technicians; RNs provide direct care
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required
