Job Description

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional nursing care to a group of patients during a designated time frame. Responsibilities include utilizing the nursing process, current nursing trends, technology, and resources to deliver quality patient care.

Essential Functions

• Perform duties specific to the unit’s scope of service.
• Implement procedures and theories related to nursing practice.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of nursing care.
• Complete initial patient assessments and develop appropriate care plans.
• Implement and modify care plans based on ongoing evaluation.
• Ensure patient and employee safety by reporting and addressing hazards.
• Communicate effectively with team members to resolve issues.
• Provide constructive feedback and support professional development of peers.
• Identify personal learning needs and pursue solutions.
• Fulfill all departmental competency requirements.

Department Specific Functions

• Float to various inpatient units including Medical-Surgical, Oncology, Orthopedic, Advanced Care, and ICUs (if applicable).
• Complete Unit Nurse Leader Training as needed.
• Provide direct nursing care and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
• Conduct and document assessments, nursing diagnoses, and patient care plans.
• Precept staff from various units as needed.
• Coordinate care with multidisciplinary team members to ensure high-quality patient care.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois.
• Minimum of 1 year of float experience, including float experience within the last year.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients and trauma care.
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
