Registered Nurse (RN) - MedSurg/Tele 4N Neuro
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Overview
- Department: Medical-Surgical Neurology, 4th Floor North
- Unit Type: MedSurg/Telemetry with Neuro focus
- Number of Beds: 25
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5-6
- Patient Types: MedSurg/Tele patients including strokes, stable neurological deficits, post-neurosurgery, joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbations, prostatectomy, cellulitis, sepsis, orthopedic trauma, GI bleeds, pneumonia, failure to thrive
- Common Drips Titrated by RN: Heparin, lidocaine, ketamine
- Common Drips: PCA pumps
- Charge Nurse: Yes, with patient assignment
- Support Staff: Nurse aides/patient care techs (ratio 1:10-20), Tele/Monitor techs interpret telemetry strips; RNs expected to have tele awareness
- Mechanical lifts available in every other room
- Patient population includes diverse cultures (Spanish, Karen, Burmese)
Schedule & Orientation
- Shifts: 0630-1900 (day), 1830-0700 (night)
- Scheduling: Travelers are scheduled; limited block scheduling available
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: 2-3 holidays between Thanksgiving and New Year’s
- Floating: Yes, to other MedSurg areas or units with MedSurg patients waiting for beds
- Orientation: 2 shifts of unit/department-specific orientation
Required Certifications & Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) license required
- BLS (AHA) certification required
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
- Must pass a skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90% (open book, resources provided)
- Driver’s license required at submission to verify candidate location (must be outside 50-mile radius of affiliated facilities)
- Artificial nails prohibited in all patient care areas (non-compliance may result in contract termination)
- Prior travel experience preferred but strong candidates without travel experience will be considered
- No license or background issues allowed
Additional Information
- Nurses are expected to manage multiple discharges and admissions daily
- Emphasis on hourly rounding, responsiveness, teamwork, compassion, and patient-centered care
- Scrub color for RNs: Navy blue
Note: Candidates may not be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any affiliated health systems within a 50-mile radius.
