Job Opportunity: OR Tech / Surgical Tech
Location: Castro Valley, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Certified OR Tech with experience in Surgical Services. Trauma, Orthopedic, and Neurosurgery experience is preferred. The role involves floating within scope to meet facility needs. Weekend shifts are required every other weekend. On-call is not required but may be available.
Required Qualifications
- Certified Surgical Technologist with 3 years of experience
- Certified Surgical Technologist experience within the last year
- One year or more of total travel experience
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- Certification as CST, NBSTSA, TS-C, or NCCT
Work Environment
- Acute Care Hospital setting
- Trauma Level II facility
- Total staffed beds: 130
- Scrub color: Any color allowed
Schedule
- Weekend shifts every other weekend required
- On-call shifts not required but may be offered
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check required within 6 months of start
- Various federal and state screenings including FACIS Level 3, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, Sex Offender Search, OFAC Sanctions List
- Education verification and transcript/diploma verification as applicable
- Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids due to CA law)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start, renewed annually
- Immunizations and health screenings including:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 90 days of start, renewed annually
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella immunity or vaccination as required
- Seasonal flu vaccination during flu season (Nov-April) or signed declination
- Respiratory safety clearance required prior to start and renewed annually
- References: 2 professional references required within 3 years for clinical/allied/per diem acute care roles
- Full 7 years of work history required on application with no gaps
Additional Notes
- Candidate must review and sign facility-specific documents including standards of business conduct, code of conduct, vendor training, confidentiality agreements, and regulatory orientation prior to start
- Religious exemptions for PAPR and certain vaccines may be requested and require approval
- Weekend and floating requirements may require flexibility
- Facility uses EPIC for charting; experience preferred but not mandatory
This position is ideal for experienced OR Techs who have prior travel contract experience and are comfortable working in a trauma-level acute care hospital environment with a flexible weekend schedule.
