Job Description
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN) in Medical/Surgical Telemetry Overflow unit
- Start Date: Next applicable orientation date (3-4 weeks out)
- Facility Type: Short Term Acute Care, Teaching hospital
- Total Staffed Beds: 332
- Charting System: EPIC
- Scrub Color: White
- Parking: Free in unrestricted spaces
Required Experience
- Minimum 18 months of telemetry/acute care experience required
- 2 years preferred
- Must have PCU (Progressive Care Unit) or Cardiac Telemetry experience (must be reflected in work history)
- Experience with vasoactive drips and stroke patients required
- First-time travel nurses accepted
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - current at time of submission
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - current at time of submission
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) - must be obtained prior to start
Work Schedule & Other Details
- Guaranteed hours: 36 hours for 3x12 shifts or 40 hours for 8/10 shifts
- Floating: Yes, will float within scope to multiple nearby hospitals (within 20 miles)
- Block scheduling: Not accommodated
- Local candidates accepted at same rate
- Pending licenses not accepted
- Smoke-free facility: All travelers must be nicotine-free (negative 10-panel drug screen including nicotine/cotinine required)
- Time-sensitive onboarding modules must be prioritized and completed before start
Required Qualifications & Compliance
- Valid RN license in Florida
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 1.5 years of Med Surg / Telemetry experience, with experience within the last year
- PCU (Progressive Care Unit) experience
- ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIHSS certification
- Proof of I9 or attestation
- Government-issued photo ID required during hours of service
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and Florida AHCA Level II fingerprint clearance (must be completed prior to start)
- Drug screen: Negative 10-panel within 1 year of start (no Florida Medical Marijuana card accepted)
- Physical exam within 6 months of start
- Immunizations and health requirements including:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
- Varicella (2 vaccines, titer, or history of chickenpox)
- Seasonal flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions allowed)
- COVID-19 vaccination series or approved medical/religious exemption required
Onboarding & Training
- Completion of online training modules prior to start is mandatory (must be done on a computer using Google Chrome; cannot be completed on a phone)
- Pass/fail testing on EKG and medication administered during orientation (2 attempts allowed per test)
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam required
- Core competency exams and HIPAA acknowledgment required
Additional Requirements
- 2 professional references within 2 years required for travel positions
- Employment application and skills checklist must be completed and updated annually
- Facility issues radiation badges if applicable
Notes
- All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted upfront with application; late requests likely will not be approved
- Candidates must be aware of and comply with all facility-specific policies and documentation requirements
- This is a teaching hospital environment with a focus on acute care telemetry patients including stroke and cardiac cases
This position is ideal for RNs with telemetry and acute care experience seeking a travel contract in Florida with a reputable acute care facility.
