Travel/Contract Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical)

Location: Augusta, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks


Patient Population

  • Adults to Geriatrics

Unit & Specialty

  • Renal Medical Surgical
  • Unit uses Epic, Pyxis, SBAR systems
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5-6
  • Average daily census: 48 patients

Schedule & Work Requirements

  • Weekends: Every other weekend
  • Floating: Yes, within facility and scope of practice as needed
  • Call: None
  • Holidays: Expected to work major holidays if they fall during assignment (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year's Eve/Day)
  • Return to Orientation (RTO): Maximum 7 days

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Georgia
  • Minimum 1 year of Medical Surgical experience within the last year
  • Experience working with adult and geriatric patients
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on specialty area (check if applicable)
  • Other certifications (PALS, NRP, EFM) not required for this specialty

Compliance & Orientation

  • Full compliance required to start on time; delays may result in a 2-week pushback due to bi-weekly orientation schedule
  • Number of Non-Billable Orientation hours depends on contract length (e.g., 12 weeks = 12 hours)

Health & Background Requirements

  • Background check required within 30 days of start, must be complete prior to start
  • Education verification required; can be pending at start with proof it is in process (due within 30 days post start)
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months (with specific requirements if prior positive)
  • Required immunizations or titers:
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
    • Hepatitis B surface antibody titer or signed declination
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Tdap highly recommended)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start
  • Flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (Nov 1 - Mar 31)

Competency Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required
  • Color blind testing required
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required if working in Telemetry, ICU, ER, or similar units (not typically required for Med Surg)

  • Locals accepted at same rate
  • Floating within facility as needed
  • No call requirements
  • Must review and sign facility-specific policies such as Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance Policy prior to start

This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with at least 1 year of Medical Surgical experience, comfortable working with adult to geriatric patients, and willing to float within the facility. Prior travel experience is not required.
