Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse
Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking an experienced Operating Room Registered Nurse with a minimum of 2 years of nursing experience. This role requires a current and valid District of Columbia nursing license.
Work Schedule & Requirements
- Every other weekend and every other holiday required
- On-call shifts: 2 night calls and 3 weekend calls per month
- Night calls during the week: 11 PM – 7 AM
- Weekend call shifts: 7 AM – 3 PM, 3 PM – 11 PM, or 11 PM – 7 AM
- No floating between units
- No block scheduling accommodation
- Patient ratio: 9 rooms

- Level 1 Trauma Center
- Teaching Hospital
- Total staffed beds: 228
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Current District of Columbia RN license (must have license in hand to submit)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) as required
- Other certifications may be required based on unit assignment (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC)
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in District of Columbia
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) nursing experience
- Operating Room experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam verifying ability to meet job demands (updated annually)
- Fit testing for approved masks (updated annually)
- Immunizations and titers including:
- TDAP (or declination form)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (titer or 2 vaccines)
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
- Varicella (titer or 2 vaccines)
- Flu vaccine (required annually; exemptions accepted with approval)
- COVID-19 vaccination required (per DC mandate; exemptions not accepted)
- Drug screening (9-panel within last 12 months)
Additional Requirements
- Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Completion of employment application including licensure, certifications, education, and employment history
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, sex offender registry, and federal exclusions
- Compliance with facility-specific forms and acknowledgments prior to start
Notes
- Parking is the responsibility of the employee; public transportation options are available nearby.
- Scrub color and charting system provided by the facility.
- Candidates must carry government-issued photo ID during hours of service.
This position does not require prior travel experience.
