Job Description

As a Registered Nurse, you will be responsible for providing professional nursing care to a group of patients during your assigned shift. Your role includes utilizing the nursing process, current nursing trends, technology, and resources to deliver quality patient care.

Essential Functions

• Perform all unit-specific nursing responsibilities within the scope of service.
• Implement procedures and theories related to the observation unit.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of nursing care for effective communication within the healthcare team.
• Complete initial patient assessments upon admission and develop appropriate care plans based on patient and family needs.
• Implement and modify care plans based on ongoing patient evaluation.
• Ensure patient and employee safety by identifying and addressing hazards and incidents.
• Communicate effectively with colleagues to resolve issues and support professional development.
• Identify personal learning needs and pursue appropriate solutions.
• Fulfill all departmental competency requirements.

Department-Specific Functions

• Assess IV sites every 4 hours.
• Start new IVs according to policy.
• Maintain documentation standards as demonstrated by passing quarterly chart audits.
• Attend at least 5 out of 6 staff meetings annually.
• Identify changes in patient status and respond appropriately.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois.
• Minimum of 1 year of trauma nursing experience, including experience with Level 1 Trauma patients within the last year.
• Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• Experience working with Epic electronic health record system.
