Registered Nurse - Observation Unit
Location: Urbana, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
As a Registered Nurse, you will be responsible for providing professional nursing care to a group of patients during your assigned shift. Your role includes utilizing the nursing process, current nursing trends, technology, and resources to deliver quality patient care.
Essential Functions
- Perform all unit-specific nursing responsibilities within the scope of service.
- Implement procedures and theories related to the observation unit.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of nursing care for effective communication within the healthcare team.
- Complete initial patient assessments upon admission and develop appropriate care plans based on patient and family needs.
- Implement and modify care plans based on ongoing patient evaluation.
- Ensure patient and employee safety by identifying and addressing hazards and incidents.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues to resolve issues and support professional development.
- Identify personal learning needs and pursue appropriate solutions.
- Fulfill all departmental competency requirements.
Department-Specific Functions
- Assess IV sites every 4 hours.
- Start new IVs according to policy.
- Maintain documentation standards as demonstrated by passing quarterly chart audits.
- Attend at least 5 out of 6 staff meetings annually.
- Identify changes in patient status and respond appropriately.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois.
- Minimum of 1 year of trauma nursing experience, including experience with Level 1 Trauma patients within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Experience working with Epic electronic health record system.
