Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Surgical Center Pre-Op

Location: Wheeling, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Information

  • Department: Outpatient Surgery - Surgical Center (Pre-Op only, no Phase 1 or 2, not PACU)
  • Beds: 15
  • Nurse to Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 2 patient bays
  • Support Staff: 2 nurse aides (1 float aid) assist the department
  • Charge Nurse: Patient-free, does not take assignments
  • Floating: No floating required

Shift Details

  • Schedule: 5 shifts per week, 8 hours each
  • Typical Shifts: Mostly 6 AM - 2 PM; some 7 AM - 3 PM and 8 AM - 4 PM shifts (about 4 days/month)
  • Call Requirements: No call nights, weekends, or holidays
  • Scheduling: No self-scheduling; shift requests allowed (up to 4 per month)

Patient Population & Cases

  • Common cases include neuro, open heart, pediatric ENT, vascular, podiatry, ortho, general surgery, endoscopy, thoracic, and gynecology
  • Occasionally pre-op patients on vents
  • ICU patients recover in PACU, but this role is strictly pre-op

Required Skills & Certifications

  • Certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS, PALS
  • Skills: IV therapy, ability to read cardiac rhythms (RNs read cardiac strips)
  • EMR System: Epic

Orientation & Dress Code

  • Orientation specific to outpatient surgery department
  • Scrubs provided by hospital scrub exchange machine

Additional Notes

  • Position may include making endoscopy phone calls and pre-op patients from the floors in the holding area as part of outpatient surgery RN duties

Required Qualifications

  • Current RN license
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications
  • Experience with IV therapy and cardiac rhythm interpretation

This role is ideal for an RN with surgical pre-op experience looking for a stable weekday schedule without call responsibilities.
