Description
Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Must be able to work holidays.
- Possible care of COVID-19 patients.
- Assigned to an Inclement Weather Team (Storm/Hurricane Team) and may be required to report during catastrophic events or disasters.
- Call required if scheduled on call shifts.
- Floating to similar units and alternate care locations with inpatient holding.
- Weekend assignment every other weekend.
- Charge nurse role required for night shift travelers.
Shift Details
- 12-hour night shifts (18:45 - 07:15)
- Target nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:6-7
- 36 or 48 hours per week accepted (no OT billed until after 48 hours if working 48 hours)
Patient Population
- Adults and geriatrics
- General Medical/Surgical patients
- Daily census approximately 43 patients
Unit & Clinical Details
- Care includes insulin and heparin drips, wound vac dressing changes, high flow oxygen, and occasional short-term BiPAP respiratory support.
- No PCU level patients on this unit.
- Documentation and medication systems: EPIC, PYXIS, SBAR.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Experience administering insulin drips
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record system
Preferred Qualifications
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification.
- Charge nurse experience.
Orientation & Training
- Unit orientation: 24 hours.
- Must complete required facility-specific education and compliance training prior to or at start.
Additional Requirements
- Must pass background checks and drug screening within 6 months of start.
- Required health documents include up-to-date immunizations and TB screening.
- Flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season.
- Must complete facility-specific mandatory education and safety training.
- Photo ID for badge required prior to start.
- Must be able to work holidays and be flexible with scheduling based on unit needs.
Notes
- No scrubs provided; navy scrubs recommended.
- RTO (Return to Office) after booking is not allowed and may result in cancellation.
- Candidates may be assigned to multiple units as needed during the contract.
This position is ideal for RNs with solid med/surg experience who are comfortable working night shifts, managing complex drips, and adapting to dynamic clinical environments including disaster response teams.
