    Registered Nurse (RN) – Special Care Nursery / NICU

    Location: Silverdale, Washington
    Contract Length: 13 weeks


    Job Overview

    Seeking an experienced NICU RN for a travel contract in a Level II NICU / Special Care Nursery unit. The unit cares for babies with low birth weight, prematurity, and those recovering from serious conditions such as respiratory issues, hemodynamic instability, and substance exposure. No surgeries or ECMO cases.


    Unit Details

    • Level of NICU: Level II
    • Number of Beds: 10
    • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:1 to 1:3 depending on acuity
    • Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP): Available 24/7
    • Respiratory Therapy: RT in-house 24/7; RNs must have experience with vents, bubble CPAP, and high flow oxygen therapy
    • Tele/Monitor Techs: Present; RNs read their own strips
    • Shift Length: 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM–7:30 PM / 7:00 PM–7:30 AM)
    • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Days: Sat & Sun; Nights: Fri & Sat)
    • Holiday Requirement: Rotate with permanent staff
    • Call/Standby: None
    • Floating: May float to Mother Baby unit
    • Scrubs: Provided

    Required Qualifications

    • Experience: Minimum 2 years NICU experience (Level II NICU experience required)
      • Candidates with 1 year NICU experience considered if they have multiple prior travel contracts
    • Certifications:
      • Active WA RN License (pending license submissions accepted; temp license takes ~4 weeks)
      • BLS (Basic Life Support)
      • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
      • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
      • STABLE certification
    • Skills:
      • Competent in couplet care in postpartum and able to attend both high and low risk deliveries
      • Experience stabilizing and transitioning newborns, including attending deliveries
      • Experience with typical drips, TPN, and lipids
      • Ability to care for well newborns and maternal care in postpartum (preferred but not mandatory if NICU experience is strong)

    Additional Information

    • Orientation includes:
      • 8-hour compliance day with manager
      • 8-hour Epic electronic health record training
      • 2-3 twelve-hour shifts for unit-specific orientation
    • Surgical hand scrub policy requires natural, well-manicured nails (no artificial nails or enhancements) and no open skin lesions on hands/forearms
    • Manager values adaptability, openness to feedback, and commitment to quality care
