Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Progressive Care Unit

Location: Prescott, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Overview

  • Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with 14 beds, up to 20 with double occupancy rooms
  • Critical Care service line with hospitalists managing PCU patients
  • Fast-paced cardiac and cardiac surgery care including patients post-cardiac catheterization and open heart surgery (2-3 days post-op)
  • Patient conditions include STEMI, NSTEMI, chronic ventilator support, alcohol withdrawal, suicidal ideation, new BiPAP/CPAP patients, thoracotomies, and renal disease

Job Duties

  • Acute care nursing for cardiovascular and surgical patients
  • Use of advanced monitoring and equipment including:
    • Philips Cardiac Monitors, Telemetry
    • Welch Allyn Vital Signs Monitors
    • Invasive monitoring devices
    • Medtronic Pacemakers
    • Cerner EMR system
    • Pyxis medication dispenser
    • Zoll R series defibrillators
    • Sigma Spectrum IV pumps
    • Mistral Air Warming units
  • Perform procedures such as arterial or venous sheath care and removal, transvenous pacing, chest tube management, epidural catheter care, PCA pump management, peritoneal dialysis, and care of chronic ventilator patients

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) nursing experience
  • Strong EKG interpretation skills
  • Experience with IV cardiac medication administration
  • Current ACLS and BLS certifications
  • Active and in good standing Arizona RN license
  • Must pass a dysrhythmia exam with a minimum score of 80% within two attempts prior to contract signing

Schedule

  • 12-hour shifts: 7 AM – 7 PM or 7 PM – 7 AM
  • 3 shifts per week required; option to discuss 4 shifts per week
  • Two weekend shifts per pay period, including night shifts

Additional Information

  • Nurse to patient ratio: 1 RN to 3-4 PCU patients depending on acuity
  • Floating: Preferred float to ICU; required float to Medical-Surgical/Telemetry units (including arterial line and sheath care)
  • Dress code: Navy scrubs, business-appropriate hair color
  • Radius rule: Candidates must not have worked full-time, part-time, or PRN within the past year at any facility associated with certain large healthcare systems within 50 miles

Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.
  • Clinicians failing the dysrhythmia exam twice will be ineligible for this contract for 6 months.
