Registered Nurse - MS/Tele - Indianapolis, Indiana (Travel/Contract)
Job Summary
- Travel/contract Registered Nurse position in Indianapolis, Indiana.
- Assignment length: 13 weeks.
- Unit specialty: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry.
- Staffing ratios: 1 nurse to 5-6 patients.
- Unit patient population includes cardiovascular surgical, peripheral vascular surgical, arrhythmias, endocarditis, CHF exacerbation, and overflow patients.
- Floating required: Nurses may be expected to float to different levels of care including Med-Surg, PCU, and ICU with resources provided.
- Weekend requirement: Must be able to work 50% of weekends during the contract.
- Refusal to float may result in contract termination.
- Teaching facility: Nurses must be willing to precept and/or have students shadow them.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Indiana.
- Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical/Telemetry nursing experience, with experience within the last year.
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Certifications (as applicable)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted.
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AHA only.
- Chemotherapy certification (if applicable).
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) (if applicable).
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (if applicable).
- NIH Stroke Certification (if applicable).
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required.
- Unit competency exam required.
- Color Blind Testing (Ishihara exam or equivalent) required.
Health and Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start.
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months.
- Fit mask test within 12 months (specific respirators approved).
- Immunizations/vaccinations required or proof of immunity:
- Tuberculosis screening (PPD, QuantiFERON, or T-SPOT) within 1 year.
- Rubeola (Measles): Positive titer or 2 vaccines required.
- Mumps: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required.
- Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required.
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; history of disease not accepted.
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required.
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap strongly recommended.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season.
- TB questionnaire updated annually.
- Background checks including 7-year history, criminal, sex offender, and education verification.
- Online license verification within 30 days of start.
- Completion of facility-specific orientation, compliance, confidentiality, and safety forms.
- Completion of mandatory online modules prior to orientation (22 modules covering safety, compliance, HIPAA, infection prevention, etc.).
Additional Information
- Local candidates are not accepted.
- Call-in shifts must be made up or added to the end of the contract depending on FTE status.
- On-site PAPR available at some locations with prior approval.
- Candidates must complete all required documentation and certifications prior to start.
- References: Minimum of 2 references from recent employment with supervisory titles required.
- Employment application must cover last 7 years with explanations for gaps over 30 days.
- Skills checklist required annually.
This position requires flexibility, strong clinical skills in telemetry and medical-surgical nursing, and willingness to work weekends and float as needed. It is a teaching environment with opportunities to precept students.
