Description
Registered Nurse - SICU Oncology (Travel/Contract)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- 12-hour day/night rotating shifts or nights (shift assignments reviewed every 4 weeks; changes not guaranteed)
- Adult patient population
- ICU setting with oncology focus (oncology experience preferred but not required)
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of SICU (Surgical Intensive Care Unit) experience, including experience within the last year
- One completed travel assignment
- Experience with Epic electronic health record
Patient Diagnoses
- Hemorrhagic shock
- Hypovolemic shock
- Sepsis and septic shock
- Pneumonia
- ARDS (Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome)
- Craniotomy
- Ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke
- Intracranial hypertension
- Delirium
Special Procedures / Unit Details
- External Ventricular Drain management
- ICP (Intracranial Pressure) monitoring
- Massive Transfusion Protocol
- Mechanical Ventilation
- Heated High Flow oxygen therapy
- BiPAP and CPAP
- Tracheostomy management
- Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
- Vasopressor titration
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale Certification (NIHSS)
Required Licensure
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (must be completed within 90 days of start)
- Education accreditation verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending drug screens allowed for new travelers)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tdap (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- TB questionnaire
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B titer or vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer (medical exemptions reviewed)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
- Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgement
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate (must be completed prior to start and updated annually)
- Ohio-specific fingerprinting requirements with specific codes and processes
Competency Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam prior to start
- Unit-specific competency exam
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (with remediation process if failed)
References and Documentation
- Two professional references required (at least one from a manager or formal leadership role)
- Employment application including education verification
- Skills checklist required
Additional Notes
- Candidates must comply with dress code and hand hygiene policies
- Candidates must complete background check attestation if fingerprint results are pending
- No first-time travelers accepted for this assignment
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) experience, including experience within the last year
- Completion of at least one prior travel nursing assignment
- Proficiency with Epic electronic health record system
- Current ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Experience managing External Ventricular Drains
- Experience with Intracranial Pressure (ICP) monitoring
- Familiarity with Massive Transfusion Protocols
- Competence in Mechanical Ventilation management
- Experience with Heated High Flow oxygen therapy
- Experience with Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
- Ability to titrate vasopressors effectively
