Job Opportunity: Home Health Registered Nurse
Location: Sarasota, Florida
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 20 weeks
Job Description
Seeking a Registered Nurse with skilled home care experience (private duty nursing experience only will not be accepted). The role involves providing skilled home health visits with a focus on cardiopulmonary assessment, wound care, IV skills, and care for high-risk diagnoses such as heart failure, COPD, myocardial infarction, pneumonia, and stroke.
Typical duties include:
- Skilled home health visits (6-8 visits per day)
- Cardiopulmonary assessment
- Basic and advanced wound care (ABI compression dressing, wound vac dressing, Pleurx/Aseptdrain care)
- Foley catheter care and changes
- Staple/suture removal
- Use of glucometer, pro-time machine
- SQ/IM injections, lab draw venipuncture
- IV skills including PICC line or Midline care and dressing changes
- SQ port access/deaccess
Work hours and shifts vary based on office needs, including:
- Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM or 9 AM to 6 PM
- Thursday to Monday or Friday to Tuesday shifts
- Alternating weekend shifts
- Visits and hours are self-scheduled based on office needs
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of home health nursing experience within the last year
- Experience in a home care and home health setting
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Use of pro-time machine
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Florida
- Valid driver’s license and reliable car for home visits
- COVID-19 vaccination or approved exemption
- Flu shot or declination with mandatory mask wearing at work
Certifications & Competencies
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Color Blind Testing (Relias) prior to start
- Other certifications may be required based on unit assignment (e.g., ACLS, NIH Stroke Certification, etc.)—verify during onboarding
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 6 months of start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 10 weeks of start (or as applicable)
- Annual TB questionnaire completion
- Required immunizations or titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella (with boosters if titers are low/equivocal)
- Standard 9-panel drug test within 30 days of start (instant tests not accepted)
- COVID-19 vaccination or approved exemption
- Respirator medical clearance if respirator use is required
Background & Documentation
- Background check within 1 year including 7 years of residence/work/school history
- Education verification and foreign equivalency evaluation if applicable
- Fingerprinting per Florida AHCA Level II requirements (must be cleared prior to start)
- Two professional references from the past 2 years
- Employment application and skills checklist required
Additional Information
- Dress code: Any solid color scrubs
- Laptop, MiFi, and portable printers provided for documentation
- Documentation and scheduling systems used for visit tracking and timesheets
- Candidates must complete required online training modules prior to start
- Mask wearing required if flu vaccination is declined
