Job Opportunity: Pediatric Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel/Contract
Location: Decatur, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Pediatric Registered Nurse (RN)
- Shift: Nights (6:00 PM - 6:30 AM)
- Unit: 11 room, 16 bed pediatric unit
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years pediatric nursing experience
- First-time travelers: Accepted
- Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
- On-call: Not required
- Floating: May float within scope to meet facility needs
- Schedule Flexibility: Block schedule requests can be discussed with manager
- Locals: Accepted with no radius restrictions
- License: Must have an active Illinois RN license or active application with ETA
- Guaranteed Hours: Client may cancel up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without pay; cancellations beyond that will be billed
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required based on unit/specialty
Required Skills and Experience
- Pediatric MedSurg and Pediatric Step Down/Telemetry experience
- Endocrine/Metabolic: Hyperbilirubinemia, insulin administration
- Gastrointestinal: Breastfeeding support, handling breast milk, feedings (bottle, breast, gavage), placement of oral/nasogastric tubes
- IV Therapy/Phlebotomy: Peripheral line care/management, starting and maintaining IVs
- Medications/Emergency: Pediatric dosage calculations
- Respiratory: Oral/nasal suctioning, oxygen delivery systems
- Professional: Infection prevention, isolation precautions, wound assessment/care
- EMR: Experience required (Cerner system)
Work Environment
- Acute care hospital setting
- Level II Trauma center
- 372 staffed beds
- Scrub color: Any solid color
- Parking permit required (no cost)
Required Background and Health Documents
- Background check within 30 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG checks within 30 days prior to start
- Education verification (degree/transcript)
- Illinois Healthcare Worker Registry fingerprinting (must be done in Illinois, 3 business days prior to start)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including labs within 7 days of contract signing
- Fit mask test (specific mask types required)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Immunizations or proof of immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
- References: 2 professional references required
Additional Notes
- Must be able to work every other weekend
- Floating may be required within scope of practice
- Block scheduling requests are negotiable
- Badge photo required before start
- Candidate must review and sign code of conduct and other facility-specific documents within 7 days of contract signing
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- Pediatric Med Surg experience with a minimum of 2 years, including experience within the last year
- Stepdown experience
- Telemetry experience
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
- National Tech Certification Verification
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
- State License 1 Verification
- NURSYS Verification (RN, LPN/LVN, AP)
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Experience working with pediatric patients
- Hyperbilirubinemia experience
- Feeding experience including bottle, breast, and gavage feedings
