Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Emergency Department

Location: Jourdanton, Texas
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM, rotating weekends
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours/week
Call Requirements: None

Unit Information

• Unit: Emergency Department
• Number of Beds: 11
• Patient Ratio: 1:4
• Staffing Example:

  • 7 AM: 3 RNs
  • 10 AM: 1 RN, 1 ER tech
  • 12 PM–12 AM: 1 RN (shift changing to 3 PM start)
  • 7 PM: 3 RNs
• Documentation System: Meditech
• Scheduling: Initially self-scheduled by staff; agency may offer availability with final approval by director
• Floating: Required as needed

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Texas
• Minimum 1 year of Emergency Department nursing experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Proficiency in ESI triage
• Proficiency in STEMI processes
• Proficiency in Stroke processes
• Stroke experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Meditech electronic documentation system
• Knowledge of Emergency Department Management (EDM)

Skills and Procedures

• Proficiency in ESI triage
• Experience with splinting, STEMI and Stroke protocols
• Ability to assist with chest tubes, central lines, and lumbar punctures

Patient Experience Expectations

• Use of AIDET communication framework
• Use of communication boards
• Aim for patient satisfaction scores in the 75th percentile or higher

Dress Code and Appearance

• Scrubs: Navy scrub top and pants; navy or white scrub jacket
• Nails: Clean and healthy
• Hair: Neat and clean, no extreme styles or colors
• Facial Hair: Clean and neatly trimmed
• Tattoos: Should be covered whenever possible; exceptions handled individually
• Piercings: Only ear piercings visible; other visible piercings prohibited

Additional Notes

• All travelers are required to float as needed
• Attendance and floating policies apply
• Crisis Prevention Intervention Training (CPI) and NIH Certification are also required
