Description

Registered Nurse - Medical/Surgical Telemetry

Location: Fort Madison, Iowa
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Provide nursing care using the nursing process: assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Collaborate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Care for patient populations including Geriatric, Medical/Surgical, Adult, and Telemetry.
  • Must self-study telemetry strips upon acceptance; a basic dysrhythmia test will be administered during the first week and must be passed to continue working on the telemetry/med-surg unit.
  • Work schedule: Saturday through Monday block schedule.
  • May be placed on call occasionally during low census periods; if called in, must respond and arrive onsite within one hour.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience in Medical/Surgical and Telemetry nursing, with at least some experience within the last year.
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Iowa.
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification
  • Ability to pass a basic dysrhythmia test during the first week of assignment.
  • Must be able to work the specified block schedule and respond promptly if called in.

Health and Compliance Requirements

  • COVID-19 Vaccine (declination accepted)
  • MMR (2 vaccines or positive titer; booster or declination accepted if low/equivocal)
  • Hepatitis B (2 vaccines or positive titer; booster or declination accepted if low/equivocal)
  • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer; booster or declination accepted if low/equivocal)
  • Tdap (valid for 10 years; declination accepted)
  • Influenza Vaccine (required annually by December 1; facility declination accepted)
  • TB Test (negative test within past year; if history of positive, must provide documentation)
  • Fit Test for approved respirators (completed prior to start)
  • Health Statement (physician statement within last 12 months)
  • Drug Screen (9-panel within 30 days of start)
  • Background Check including adult and child abuse registry checks, education verification, and other standard screenings within 30 days of start
  • Skills Checklist (completed within last 12 months)
  • Various attestations and verifications as required for onboarding

Additional Information

  • Must have a current driver's license or state ID that does not expire during the assignment.
  • Resume and professional references required (2 references, including 1 supervisor).
  • No regular call rotation, but occasional on-call availability required.
  • Must complete pre-orientation and compliance training as directed.

This position is ideal for an experienced RN with Medical/Surgical and Telemetry skills who is comfortable working a weekend block schedule and meeting the outlined certification and compliance requirements.
