Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery

Location: Henderson, Nevada
Specialty: Labor & Delivery (L&D)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Overview

  • Labor & Delivery unit with 17 L&D beds
  • 2 OR suites dedicated for C-sections
  • 4 triage beds and 16 postpartum beds
  • Approximately 250 births per month
  • Level 3 high-risk facility
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios:
    • 2:1 for normal laboring moms
    • 1:1 for high-risk labors
    • 4:1 couplet care
    • 2:1 to 4:1 antepartum depending on acuity

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring (AFM)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)

Experience & Skills

  • Must be independent and confident with:
    • Vaginal exams
    • Internal monitor placement
    • Managing high-risk laboring/delivery patients and antepartum patients
  • Experience circulating and recovering C-section patients
  • Ability to float to Mother-Baby unit and other units as needed
  • RNs are required to titrate drips including Magnesium Sulfate, Pitocin, Insulin, and Heparin

Staffing & Support

  • Certified Surgical Techs and Secretaries provide ancillary support
  • OB/Neonatologist available in-house 24/7
  • Anesthesia available in-house 24/7
  • Respiratory therapy equipment available if needed; patients requiring ventilation are transferred to ICU
  • No tele/monitor techs on unit; RNs must read fetal monitor strips independently
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring system used: Cerner

Scheduling & Work Environment

  • Scheduling system allows self-scheduling requests, balanced by a scheduling committee
  • Weekend requirement: every other weekend
  • Holiday coverage as needed
  • No call or standby requirement
  • Floating required to postpartum unit as needed
  • Dress code: Navy blue scrubs; light blue OR scrubs available for nurse use
  • Unit orientation for travelers: 3 days
  • Shifts include evenings, nights, and first to float

Additional Notes

  • Charge nurse takes assignments only when unit is at maximum capacity and no additional help is available

Required Qualifications Summary

  • Registered Nurse license
  • Minimum experience consistent with managing high-risk L&D patients (implied advanced skills)
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, AFM, NRP
  • Ability to titrate drips and manage complex labor and delivery scenarios independently
