Registered Nurse (LDRP - Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum)

Location: Winnemucca, Nevada
Contract Length: 8 weeks


Job Overview

Seeking experienced L&D nurses for night shifts at a Critical Access Hospital in Northern Nevada. The role involves working in the Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum (LDRP) unit with responsibilities across labor and delivery, postpartum care, and the sick-baby nursery.


Unit Details

  • 4 LDRP beds, 2 postpartum beds, 1 exam room convertible to LDRP
  • Approximately 20 births per month (~200 per year)
  • No designated triage area; triage done in all rooms
  • OR team handles C-sections; OB nurse receives the baby
  • Staff 2 nurses per shift, following AWHONN staffing guidelines
  • No charge nurse on unit; team approach with charge nurse support from ER/ICU if needed
  • Occasional nurse aide support for non-patient care tasks
  • OB physician on call with ~30-minute response time; no neonatologist on site
  • High acuity babies stabilized and transferred out (transfer can take ~3 hours)
  • Anesthesia on call with quick response (~20 minutes)
  • Respiratory therapy equipment includes T-pieces for PPV and Vapotherm for high flow
  • Nurses read their own fetal monitoring strips; MDs can view remotely
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) system: Fetal Link & Cerner EMR

Schedule

  • 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (start 7:00-7:30 AM/PM)
  • Modified self-scheduling with some flexibility required
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
  • Holiday rotation may apply
  • No call or standby requirements
  • Possible floating to other departments (Medical-Surgical, ER, LTC) as needed

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring (Advanced FHM required in Nevada to administer Cytotec)
  • STABLE certification preferred

Experience Requirements

  • Must have LDRP experience with ability to function in Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, and Sick-Baby Nursery
  • Minimum 1 year of true LDRP experience required (higher experience value applied)
  • Comfortable caring for sick babies prior to transport
  • First-time travelers are acceptable

Clinical Details

  • Common patient diagnoses: low-risk labor, antepartum testing, postpartum couplets, well nursery, stabilization and transfer of sick nursery patients
  • IV drips managed via infusion devices
  • Common drips: Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, antibiotics; rare insulin use
  • C-section involvement limited to receiving the baby; OR team handles scrubbing, circulating, and recovery

Orientation

  • 1 day general orientation plus 1-2 shifts on unit with preceptor
  • Orientation shift scheduled on the nurse’s assigned shift

Dress Code

  • Navy blue scrubs for unit
  • Hospital scrubs provided for C-section OR

This position offers an opportunity to work in a supportive, team-oriented environment in a scenic Northern Nevada location with a manageable patient census and a variety of OB nursing experiences.
