Job Opportunity: Stepdown Registered Nurse

Location: Memphis, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Unit: Stepdown / Med Surg Overflow / Cardiovascular Experience
  • Shift: 36 or 48 hours shifts (schedule may change during interview)
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:6 (team nursing ratios)
  • On-call and weekend shifts as needed
  • No weekend block scheduling (weekend block may be considered)
  • Local candidates within 100-mile radius not accepted
  • Pending licenses not accepted; must comply with Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) guidelines
  • Return to Office (RTO) restrictions apply; must be included at submission

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Tennessee
  • Minimum 2 years of Stepdown experience, including experience within the last year
  • One completed travel assignment
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Large hospital experience
  • Trauma experience

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – American Heart Association or American Red Cross only
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) Certification

Licensure

  • Valid Tennessee RN license or multistate license under Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC)
  • Must be fully licensed and compliant prior to start

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background check within 60 days of start, including statewide, county, federal, and education verification
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start (no pending results accepted)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Fit mask test (3M N-95 1860 or 1870+) within 1 year of start
  • Immunizations and health screenings including:
    • TB test (2-step PPD, Q-Gold, or T-spot within 1 year)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (proof of vaccination or positive titer with boosters if needed)
    • Varicella (proof of vaccination or positive titer with boosters if needed)
    • Hepatitis B vaccination series or positive titer or signed declination
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (mask required if exempt)
  • Two recent professional references required
  • Skills checklist and internal evaluation if employed with agency for 1 year or more

Additional Notes

  • Dress code: Navy blue scrubs for RNs; no prints or embroidered scrubs allowed
  • Photo badge required prior to start (passport-style photo with specific guidelines)
  • Confidentiality acknowledgment and job description form must be signed prior to start
  • EPIC experience questionnaire required for RNs (may test out of EPIC training during orientation)
  • Flu exemption requests require documentation and may delay start date

This position is ideal for experienced travel RNs with trauma and large hospital experience seeking a stepdown unit assignment in Tennessee.
