Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Pediatrics

Location: Baltimore, Maryland
Employment Type: Travel/Contract

Job Description

  • Pediatric Registered Nurse position with alternating day and night shifts (36 hours; every other weekend).
  • Patient population includes neonates, infants, and pediatrics.
  • Patient diagnoses include prematurity, apnea of prematurity (AOP), retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), bronchopulmonary dysplasia/chronic lung disease (BLD/CLD), cardiac defects, feeding issues, neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS), and iatrogenic NAS.
  • Care involves use of specialized equipment such as tracheostomies/ventilators, PICCs/central lines, and TPN/IL.
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:3, up to 1:4 with lower acuity patients.
  • Weekend and holiday shifts required as scheduled. Floating within specialty or sister units may be required. On-call is not required.
  • Scrubs: any color or print allowed.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Maryland.
  • Minimum 2 years of pediatric nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Experience working with pediatric patients, including tracheostomy and ventilator care.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Patient Care Environment

  • Specialty pediatric unit with complex patient needs.
  • Exposure to critical care equipment and treatments.

Additional Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility guidelines.
  • Required immunizations/vaccinations including Tdap, MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, and seasonal flu vaccine or approved exemption.
  • Negative drug screen required prior to start.
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history and various federal/state sanction lists.
  • Two supervisory references within 1 year of start.
  • Employment history verification for previous 5 years.
  • Photo for badge and signed confidentiality agreement required prior to start.
  • Compliance with facility-specific dress code and other onboarding documentation.

Work Schedule

  • Alternating day and night shifts.
  • Every other weekend required.
  • Holidays as scheduled.
  • Floating within specialty units as needed.

Summary

This is a pediatric RN travel contract position requiring at least 2 years of pediatric nursing experience, including trach/vent care. Maryland RN license and BLS/CPI certifications are required, with ACLS preferred. The role involves caring for critically ill neonates and pediatric patients with complex diagnoses in a specialty unit. Weekend and holiday shifts are required, with floating responsibilities within related units. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
