    Description

    Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery

    Location: Cortez, Colorado
    Employment Type: Travel
    Shift: Night Shift (6 PM - 6 AM)
    Contract Length: 13 weeks


    Job Summary

    Provide nursing care to patients in Labor and Delivery with willingness to train in Nursery and Recovery. Administer safe, efficient, and courteous nursing care using appropriate procedures. Demonstrate knowledge and skills to care for patients across the lifespan, assess patient status, and provide evidence-based interventions. Collaborate with healthcare team members to optimize patient outcomes.


    Essential Responsibilities

    • Practice within nursing standards, policies, and accreditation requirements.
    • Provide patient-centered care with strong teamwork and customer service focus.
    • Understand telemetry monitoring and basic arrhythmia interpretation.
    • Supervise non-professional staff and assist physicians with patient care and procedures.
    • Administer medications following protocols, including controlled substances and EMAR scanning.
    • Maintain professional responsibility for high-quality patient care and communicate concerns appropriately.
    • Participate in ongoing education, departmental meetings, and quality improvement activities.
    • Adhere to safety and infection control standards.
    • Assist nursing staff in other departments as needed.
    • Develop and revise patient care plans based on clinical standards.
    • Utilize critical thinking to evaluate and adjust patient care interventions.
    • Document nursing care accurately and timely using technology.
    • Demonstrate flexibility with work hours and shifts to meet staffing needs.

    Unit-Specific Duties

    • Intensive Care Unit (ICU) care
    • Family Birthing Center (FBC) duties including fetal monitoring and newborn care
    • Procedural sedation
    • Antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care including complications
    • Rapid sequence intubation
    • Advanced cardiac and fetal monitoring (NST, CVP, A-line)
    • Use of rapid infuser, epidural, critical drips, ventilator/BiPAP
    • Trauma alert response
    • Hearing screening, infant security, EMTALA compliance
    • Pre-term and newborn care including phototherapy and CCHD screening

    Required Qualifications

    • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Colorado
    • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
    • Minimum 1 year of Labor and Delivery experience, with experience within the last year
    • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
    • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
    • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
    • Successful completion of an EKG course
    • Demonstrated labor and delivery experience
    • Willingness to train in nursery and recovery areas

    Experience Requirements

    • Specialty: Registered Nurse in Labor & Delivery
    • Minimum 1 year Labor and Delivery experience within the last year
    • No explicit prior travel experience required

    Work Environment and Physical Demands

    • Exposure to infectious waste, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and occasional foul odors
    • Moderate to loud noise levels; possible interactions with aggressive patients or visitors
    • Possible exposure to environmental elements (heat, cold, precipitation)
    • Physical demands include lifting up to 100 lbs occasionally, frequent kneeling, crouching, reaching, and repetitive motion
    • Requires good vision and hearing, including color vision and ability to focus at varying distances
